Sabbatical Trip - Part 2 - the last days!

16 months later, the Sabbatical Blogs come to a close. Perhaps I am inconsistent but sometimes you bring something to a close just to say you did!

From Annapolis, we crossed the Chesapeake Bay Bridge en route to Ocean City, NJ, where we would spend the rest of Saturday and then into Father's Day, 2017. The bridge across the Chesapeake was absolutely breathtaking. Have I mentioned that I love bridges? We here it is:

Pictures don't capture the view but why not try anyway?:

Another state to check off the list:

The William V. Roth Bridge or Rt. 1 Bridge
Depends on who you asked.
I don't know much about Bill, but for the life of me,
I couldn't remember which bridge this was and
spent forever finding it on the internet.
So, now you know.

 The Delaware Memorial Bridge:

Back to NJ

What a day for a bridge lover!
Going into Ocean City

And now, Ocean City
We loved the boardwalk with its touristy shops

and waterslide

and variety of eateries

and an amusement park

and what boardwalk wouldn't be complete
without a beauty pageant?

But most of all, I loved the beach!

From there, our Sunday afternoon drive took us north of New York city to the small town of Peekskill, NY. The drive up Palisades Interstate Parkway along the Hudson River was beautiful. Here are just a few of our pictures:
That's NYC between our heads!

We stayed in Peekskill just one night. We expected to stay two but an error on the part of our travel agent (that would be me) caused us to have to check out, quite hurriedly, on Monday morning. We decided not to think about where to sleep that night and went to our appointment for a tour of West Point - U.S. Military Academy. It rained for part of this tour but we still managed to get many pictures and enjoyed the rich military history.
The drive to West Point across and along the Hudson.

Since we didn't have reservations anywhere, we decided to go to a state new to us and spend the night. We ended up in Stamford, Connecticut. Stamford is part of the greater NYC area and it took us less than an hour to get back to Queens. This put us a bit early for our flight home so we went to Flushing Meadows-Corona Park (very close to the LaGuardia Airport). This is on my "go back to" list. I loved what I saw and we didn't see much of this nearly 1000 acre park - home of the 1939/40 and 1964/65 World Fairs.

Citi Field - Home of the NY Mets. I do hope to go back when the Cardinals are there!

Men in Black fans - recognize this?

The world at his fingertips.

The Unisphere. You might have seen it in the opening of the show, King of Queens.
